Child Safety Standards
How WhiMate (on Google Play: “WhiMate: Things to Do Nearby”) keeps children safe, and what happens if anyone tries to harm one.
Effective October 2026
Zero tolerance
WhiMate does not tolerate child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) in any form. That includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), sexualising minors, grooming, trying to contact or meet a minor for sexual purposes, and trafficking. Posting, sending, requesting or linking to any of it gets the account banned, and we report it to the authorities.
Adults only
WhiMate is for people 18 and over. There is no version for minors. Everyone gives their birth date when they sign up, and it is checked on our servers, not just in the app. Any account we believe belongs to someone under 18 is banned.
How we prevent it
- Our User Agreement bans sexual content involving minors of any kind.
- Selfie verification is checked by a person, not a machine.
- Every profile has Report and Block, and so do plans and 1-on-1 chats. Reporting someone lets our moderators review their profile picture and profile photos. Hangout album photos are private to that crew, so if one is the problem, email us with the plan and who added it.
- Reports go to a moderation queue that our team reviews.
- Moderators can hide posts, remove profile photos and ban accounts straight away.
How to report a concern
In the app: open the person's profile (or their post, or your 1-on-1 chat with them), tap the 3-dot menu, then Report, and tell us what happened. If you can't reach their profile, for example from a group chat, email us instead with the plan and their name.
By email: hello@whimate.com with “Child safety” in the subject. You don't need an account.
If a child is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (911 in Canada and the US) first.
What we do
- Remove the content and ban the account.
- Report apparent CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to the authority where the law requires it, such as Cybertip.ca in Canada.
- Cooperate with law enforcement investigations.
Contact
Our child safety contact can speak about these practices and how we comply with child safety laws: hello@whimate.com.
