How do I post something?
Tap the orange Bored? Whim it button at the top of the feed. Pick a starter template or write from scratch. You need location turned on (WhiMate runs on real proximity — joining needs it too). That's the only requirement: Instagram, photos and a bio are optional, but they raise your verification score, and higher scores show first.
What's the verification score?
A number from 0 to 100 on your profile that shows how much of yourself you've shared. Everything in it is optional:
- Selfie verification: +30
- Profile photo: +10
- Photos of you: +5 each, up to 6
- Instagram: +10
- Bio: +8
- Birthday, gender, city: +4 each
The higher it is, the earlier your whims show in the feed and the higher you appear in Nearby. Others see it on your profile, so they know who they're meeting. Only a verified selfie takes you past 70. See yours under You.
“Something specific” or “I’m just bored”?
Something specific = you have an activity in mind (“ramen at Mensho 8pm”). People can accept directly or counter-propose.
I'm just bored = anything goes. People send you suggestions and you pick one.
How do group hangouts work?
When you create a whim, pick “Small group” or “Large group” under “Who's coming?”, then set the spots (e.g. 5). Others tap “I'm in / Maybe / No”. Once it's full, the hangout locks and a group chat opens for everyone in.
Do my messages stick around?
No — they clear automatically 24 hours after sending. WhiMate is for coordinating a meet-up, not building a chat history. If you need to exchange contact info, do it in the thread; you'll have it before messages disappear.
How does the trust ring work?
Trust (0-100) is about how you show up, not what's on your profile. It starts at 30 and grows with vouches from people you've met, the meetups you actually made it to, and your show-up rate. Shown on your profile to anyone signed in.
Someone's being a creep
Open their profile, their post or your thread → tap the 3-dot menu → Report. Reporting a profile covers their photos too. A moderator will review. You can also Block — their posts and messages disappear from your view immediately.
How do I delete my account?
Go to You → Delete account (also under Edit profile → Danger zone). Type your name to confirm. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile, photos, posts, matches, chats, reviews and location data are removed. You can also email hello@whimate.com from your account address and we'll do it for you.
A few things are kept briefly: if a safety check-in ever alerted your trusted contact, a one-way fingerprint of their address (never the address itself) for 30 days, and minimal records where the law requires them. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
Is there an iPhone app?
Yes — WhiMate on the App Store (free, iOS 16.4 or newer). On Android or a computer, whimate.com works in any browser; on Android you can also Add to Home Screen for the full-screen app with notifications. Your account is the same everywhere.
What are safe-meet spots?
Public-venue archetypes we've curated as good first-meet spots — cafés, bookstores, farmer's markets, etc. Easy to bail from, plenty of people around. Browse them at /spots.
